INNOVATIONS ACS Rotary Valves for Rugged Dust Collection Designed specifically for rugged applications generating harsh or abrasive dusts, the CI Series of rotary valves from ACS Valves provides processing operations continuous performance, reduced maintenance, and optimal energy ef‐ ficiency, according to the company. To provide long‐term, heavy‐duty rotary airlock perform‐ ance, CI Series valve housings are cast in North America to ensure superior strength in the composition and solidi‐ fication of the housing's metallurgy. Bearing life and maintenance cycles are extended due to the outboard bearing design of the CI Series. This CI Series bearing de‐ sign easily manages applications with pressure differen‐ tials up to 15 psig. The outboard design also protects the bearings in high temperature applications to 750 F, and removes bearings from the path of damaging and contam‐ inating materials. The CI Series 8‐vane rotor design improves process energy efficiency by minimizing pressure loss throughout the sys‐ tem. The CI Series, simultaneous two‐vane inlet seal and two‐vane outlet seal maintains accurate pressure differen‐ tials, reducing compressed air requirements. They can be used to check completeness of parts, kits or modules as well as quality of surfaces where material is added or subtracted. Traditional methods for in‐process‐ control and end‐of‐line‐control use electrical resistance, optical imaging, spectrometry, light beam and me‐ chanical sizing. It wasn't until re‐ cently that weighing technology was used in spot checking mode. This was mostly due to the design of tradi‐ tional balances and scales, which didn´t fit seamlessly into machines and instruments. It also wasn't obvi‐ ous that dimensions, coatings, shapes or completeness could indirectly be checked while looking at weight devi‐ ations or differences. 6 ROCKproducts • AUGUST 2012 High‐resolution weigh modules from Mettler Toledo are very compact. They can be seamlessly integrated into various machines and instru‐ ments. In an automated process, a weigh module can detect violations of weight tolerance of 1 ppm in a split second. This high measurement speed enables 100 percent inspection without sacrificing high throughput. Although lighting and positioning of the part doesn't matter, this method is suitable for complex shapes, hid‐ den structures, material inconsis‐ tency, as well as transparent or reflective materials. Standards like TS16949 and ISO9001 require periodic testing of quality con‐ trol devices. The test frequency has to be in accordance with the risks re‐ lated to the respective control process. Weigh modules are tested with traceable weights to comply with www.rockproducts.com the above mentioned standards. This procedure is easy and inexpensive. In addition, most weigh modules have a built‐in calibration weight. This allows for automatic verification of function and precision, plus adjustment if nec‐ essary, at any time. Rotor configurations include: closed‐end, metering, shallow‐ pocket, Teflon‐coated, and adjustable‐tip. Adjustable rotor tips are available in EDPM, hardened steel, stainless steel, bronze or polyurethane. Interior surface coating options include: hard chrome, tungsten and Teflon.
