In addition, the acquisition includes 12 limestone quarries in east Tennessee and southwest Virginia. Vulcan may divest several quarries in Tennessee to a third party in order to expedite the regulatory approval process. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory provi- sions under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. Vulcan expects the transaction to be accretive to the company's earnings per share in the first year following the close. SPO Partners is a Mill Valley, Calif.-based investment partnership that employs a long-term, value-oriented and highly concentrated approach to investing in companies in the public and private mar- kets. With more than $7 billion in assets under management, SPO invests across a wide range of industries including basic materials, media, telecom, energy, power and real estate. Vulcan also acquired Petaluma, Calif.-based Shamrock Materials, a six-de- cade-old company and one of the largest suppliers of concrete and paving materi- als to San Francisco's North Bay area. Shamrock Materials owns ready-mix plants and a quarry and sells a diverse line of concrete accessories and building materials, as well as masonry, stone prod- ucts and landscaping materials. With Shamrock, Vulcan Materials picked up California concrete, rock, sand and gravel facilities in Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties, company spokes- woman Atisthan Roach said. That includes ready-mix plants in San Rafael, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Clover- dale and Napa; building-materials sites in Cotati and San Rafael; a sand and gravel outlet in Cloverdale; and a materials depot on Landing Way along the Petaluma River. Jeff Nehmans was promoted from operations chief to vice president and general manager, reporting to Glen- dale-based Western Division President Brock Lodge.
