Mississippi Lime Acquires Mercer's Hydrated Lime Business Mississippi Lime Co. announced it has completed its purchase of Mercer Lime Co.'s hydrated lime business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Mercer Lime Co., with operations in Branchton, Pa., has a long history of producing high-quality hydrated lime to a variety of markets including chem- ical and industrial, water treatment and various environmental applications. Bill Ayers, president and CEO of Mis- sissippi Lime, said, "This acquisition is consistent with our continued mission to be the leading supplier of hydrated lime products and services in North America. This addition will strengthen Mississippi Lime's position in the industry and help better service the wide range of hydrated lime customers in the region." Mississippi Lime Co., based in St. Louis, has been providing the nation with high-calcium lime products for more than a century. The company has facil- ities in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; Verona, Ky.; Huron, Ohio; Vicksburg, Miss.; Weirton, W.Va.; Chester, S.C.; Mobile, Ala.; Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; Kansas City, Kan.; Port Allen, La.; and Denver. "Wirtgen's superb reputation, strong customer relationships and demonstrated financial performance are attractive as we expand the reach of John Deere construction equipment to more cus- tomers, markets and geographies." Stefan Wirtgen, managing director at Wirtgen, said, "The Wirtgen Group has a legacy of technology and innovation with market-leading products and a strong focus on the customer. As we looked to the future, we specifically chose Deere as the buyer because of our long-held respect for the organization and our full confidence that Deere is dedicated to the ongoing success of the Wirtgen Group and our employees worldwide." Deere plans to maintain the Wirtgen Group's existing brands, management, manufacturing footprint, employees and distribution network. The com- bined business is expected to benefit from sharing best practices in distribu- tion, customer support, manufacturing and technology as well as in scale and efficiency of operations. The transaction has been approved by Deere's board of directors. The pur- chase is subject to regulatory approval in several jurisdictions as well as certain other customary closing condi- tions. The companies said they expect to close on the transaction in the first quarter of Deere's 2018 fiscal year. The Carmeuse Lime & Stone Port Inland operation recently pulled together a team of 14 employees who volunteered their time to clean up the roadside of their adopted section of highway. Port Inland adopted its two-mile stretch of highway through the Mich- igan Department of Transportation's Adopt-a-Highway program just last year, so this was the first spring road- side cleanup for the Port Inland team. The Adopt-a-Highway program helps keep Michigan's highway roadsides looking clean and attractive. Through the program, organizations, companies and individuals adopt sections of state highway roadside for which they are responsible over a two-year period. Carmeuse is staffed by up to 2,000 employees throughout 28 production facilities in the Eastern U.S. and Canada, with North America operations head- quartered in Pittsburgh. The company not only offers lime and limestone products, but also value-added services such as technical support, application support and logistics support to opti- mize customer processes.
