Crawler Loader The new 655K Crawler Loader from John Deere was de‐ signed and built using significant customer input, to provide contractors a machine that helps increase productivity and uptime and lower daily operating costs. The latest addition to the K‐Series line builds on the highly successful 755K crawler loader. The 655K features a John Deere PowerTech 6.8‐L IT4/Stage IIIB diesel engine that delivers a productive combination of power and torque. The new model boasts a net horsepower of 145 hp at 1,800 rpm. Customers can choose between two‐bucket options: a general‐purpose bucket or a 4‐in‐1 multi‐purpose bucket with lifetime lubri‐ cated bucket pivot pins to increase uptime by eliminating periodic service. In addition, a rear ripper design helps turn materials on the jobsite. The 655K also features a sealed switch model (SSM) with keyless start and the ability to en‐ able exclusive features such as turbocharger cool‐down and auto shutdown. A touchpad security system requires a nu‐ meric pass code to prevent unauthorized operation. John Deere, Mobile Communications Tablet The 2020 telematics tablet is the first portable device to provide electronic inspection, hours‐of‐ service, in‐ stant driver feedback, fuel efficiency, two‐way messaging and advanced commercial navigation in an open platform that allows fleets to integrate other systems and cus‐ tomize its use, states the manufacturer. Drivers improve productivity with advanced vehicle operation applica‐ tions and an easy to navigate touch screen. Unique to the 2020 is the ability to ensure inspection compliance and streamline repairs with the patented Electronic Vehicle Inspection Report (EVIR) system. Drivers use the 2020's built‐in RFID reader to scan tags placed at each vehicle inspection point; identify component conditions using the onscreen QWERTY keyboard; and send pictures of defects with the completed report. All inspection infor‐ mation is available to fleet and maintenance managers through Zonar's web‐based Ground Traffic Control appli‐ cation. Other notable 2020 features include a 16‐GB NAND Flash storage memory, 7‐in. widescreen resistive‐ touch display, SD/MMC card slot, 5‐megapixel camera with LED flash, video recording capability, in‐cab train‐ ing, Bluetooth, and built‐in flashlight. Zonar, Fuel Tank and Trailer Thunder Creek Equipment developed a double‐wall fuel tank and trailer combination that is compliant with the EPA's SPCC Program as well as DOT406 and Transport Canada regulations. The double wall tank design provides 110 percent fuel containment with a 990‐gal. fuel tank mounted inside a protective secondary tank. The pumping system, fill ports and vents are also located within the secondary tank, thereby secur‐ ing the fuel supply behind two lockable, hatch‐style doors. Used alone, the tank is a secure, on‐site solution for stor‐ ing and dispensing fuel. Used in conjunction with a trailer base also available from Thunder Creek, it becomes a mo‐ bile fueling station. Features like four fuel surge baffles, a rugged 8‐in. C‐channel chassis and torsion axles stream‐ line transporting fuel between job sites. The utility of the double wall tank and trailer can be extended with a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) delivery system. The system incorpo‐ rates an ISO 22241 compliant DEF tank and a patent‐ pending 2‐in‐1 pumping system. Thunder Creek Equipment, ROCKproducts • JANUARY 2013 55
