Many of the company's heavy hydraulic breaker attachments now feature the patented Intelligent Protection System (IPS). Seamlessly combining Epiroc's AutoControl and StartSelect functions, the fully automated system provides simpler, more efficient, and more eco- nomical breaker operation. AutoControl and StartSelect have been popular features on Epiroc hydrau- lic breakers for years. AutoControl optimizes breaker performance by automatically adjusting the piston stroke length. The StartSelect system offers manual switching between two modes. AutoStart mode enables easy positioning at the beginning of the breaking cycle, while in AutoStop mode the breaker stops automatically to avoid blank firing at the end of the breaking cycle. Epiroc has taken these features to a higher level by combining them in the Intelligent Protection System. IPS ensures that the hydraulic breaker always starts in the AutoStart mode. When the contact pressure between chisel and material increases and Auto- Control switches from a short piston stroke to a long piston stroke, IPS switches automatically to the AutoStop mode. When the chisel breaks through the material, the breaker automatically shuts off and prevents blank firing. IPS makes the breaking process even simpler for the operator by automati- cally adapting the breaker's operating behavior to any working condition. Uptime is increased because, with its fully automated functionality, IPS requires no operator intervention or reaction – and thus no work interruption. The system permits more accurate and significantly faster positioning of the breaker thanks to the centering effect, and avoids blank firing that often results in tool damage. This also elimi- nates mechanical strain on the carrier and extends the life of all wear compo- nents. The physical load on the operator is minimized as well. Epiroc HB 2000, HB 2500, HB 3100, HB 3600, HB 4100 and HB 4700 are equipped with IPS. Epiroc, Metso Debuts New Superior MKIII Primary Gyratory Crusher The Metso Superior MKIII provides a significant performance leap in gyratory crushing. Based on Metso's industry leading crushing technology, the MKIII is the first high-speed pri- mary gyratory crusher to deliver up to 30 percent higher capacity and 70 per- cent lower downtime in a comminution circuit. "Our mining customers are facing increasing pressure to optimize capital expenses and improve the efficiency of their comminution circuit. With the new MKIII, we are addressing these challenges directly by offering peak performance and maximum through- put, while reducing the cost of primary stage infrastructure," said Guillaume Lambert, vice president, mining crush- ers at Metso. Designed for the most demanding pri- mary crushing conditions and with the new, patented SmartStation for opti- mized production, the Metso Superior MKIII brings whole new level of cost-ef- fectiveness and reliability to operations. The MKIII is the first high-speed pri- mary gyratory crusher on the market, surpassing traditional primary gyra- tory crushers by up to 30 percent in speed, thus having a 30 percent higher capacity. The rotable top shell ensures safe main- tenance and reduces downtime by up to 70 percent. In addition, the MKIII can be paired with the Metso Metrics solution for predictive maintenance and online asset management. "The MKIII is the third generation of our trusted primary crushing tech- nology and it has been developed in close dialogue and cooperation with our customers. With the Superior MKIII, it is possible to use smaller machines to achieve the same high- est-duty performance, making it the most capex-efficient technology on the market for the primary stage," Lambert said.
