Their use cases are plen- tiful and have been broadly embraced and implemented in production workflows by organizations large and small for mapping, inspection, cinematography, public safety, among numerous other uses. Here is a drone market outlook for 2019: 1. Drones are here to stay and will become increasingly more relevant and valuable in mainstream business workflows. 2. Drones used for surveying/mapping will continue to be the largest market for commercial drone use. 3. LiDAR sensors on drones will become increasingly more prevalent as their costs continue to fall. 4. Workflows leveraging RTK/PPK solutions will become more widespread and lead to improved mapping project efficiency and accuracy. 5. As companies move from trial drone projects to wide- spread use of drones in production, "hybrid workflows" will evolve – using internal company resources for some of the drone image acquisition and relying on third party providers with survey/engineering expertise to do the photogrammetric processing and create client specific deliverables. 6. Anti-drone solutions will become more prevalent, with heightened interest at airports, prisons, stadiums, etc. 7. Drone industry consolidation will increase through acqui- sition, strategic partnerships and company failures. 8. Drone operations Beyond Visual Line of Site (BVLOS) will experience increased FAA waivers (permission) in specialized use cases leading the way for the potential in future years for drone delivery and industrial use in long corridor applications. 9. Exploration for a viable long-term solution for drone reg- istration and tracking will gain momentum with expected implementation several years away. DroneView Technologies, DroneView Offers Drone Market Outlook for 2019 U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao outlined a proposal that would allow drones to operate over populated areas and end a requirement for special permits for night use: long- awaited moves that are expected to help speed commercial use of small unmanned aerial vehicles in the United States. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that in devel- oping the proposal its challenge was to "balance the need to mitigate the risk small unmanned aircraft pose to other aircraft and to people and property on the ground without inhibiting innovation." For operations over populated areas, the FAA proposes that operators would be able to fly small unmanned aircraft weighing 0.55 lb. (0.25 kg) or less without any additional restrictions. But the FAA would set additional rules for larger drones. For drones weighing more than 0.55 lb., a manufacturer would need to demonstrate that if an "unmanned aircraft crashed into a person, the resulting injury would be below a certain severity threshold." Those larger drones could not have exposed rotating parts that could lacerate human skin and could not operate over people if they have any safety defects, the FAA said. The FAA would prohibit operations of the largest drones over any open-air assembly of people. The FAA is also proposing ending requirements that drone operators get waivers to operate at night. Through 2017, the FAA granted 1,233 waivers and "has not received any reports of (drone) accidents," it said. The FAA would require drones have "an anti-collision light illuminated and visible for at least three statute miles." The proposal will be open to public comment before it can be finalized.
