The cases for its instru- mentation are manufactured with the toughest structural resin available, and are the most water resistant seis- mographs on the market, according got the company. Basic compliance reporting software is included with each unit at no additional charge, and all units are proudly manufactured in the United States. The SSU 3000LC is a convenient, easy- to-use and complete vibration and sound-monitoring system designed with the user in mind. Key features include an enhanced tactile keypad, heavy duty twist-lock metal cable con- nectors and a heavy-gauge aluminum enclosure with baked enamel finish. The four-line by 20-character LCD and menu-driven programming makes on-site setup easy and permits the user to view numerical waveform data and monitoring results in the field. The timesaving template utility can store repetitive setup information for quickly deployed instruments with pre-defined configurations. The internal lead-acid battery is long lasting and easily charged using the included AC adapter. An integrated timer turns the unit on and off at pre-se- lected times to conserve battery power. The 2- hertz, high-pass microphone and all other accessories fit easily into the tough, structural-resin carrying case. The SSU 3000LC has three recording modes: • Triggered – either seismic or sound. • Continuous (histogram). • Sustained trigger. The internal memory can store up to 220, one-second events. Sustained trigger mode delays processing and permits collection of consecutive 15-second intervals of waveform data up to a cumulative total of approxi- mately 4.2 minutes. Data can be collected in either imperial (U.S. customary) or metric units. The included basic compliance software package can be used for data analysis and preparation of standard or custom- ized reports. GeoSonics/Vibra-Tech, www.geosonicsvibratech Epiroc Introduces Next Generation of Rig Control System for Pit Viper Epiroc introduced the fifth generation of its Rig Control System (RCS 5). RCS 5 is the next evolutionary step toward fully autonomous mining. RCS 5 provides the next step for the mining industry from the automation program that brought autonomous drilling into a sustainable reality. Fea- tures such as Machine-to-Machine Communication, sharing real time drill plan updates between drills, Auto Tower Angle and Integrated Camera View advanced awareness are some of the early features introduced. Whether operating from a remote location or on-board the drill, the new and improved RCS 5 intuitive main menu creates a user-friendly experience that ultimately increases productivity. This new design allows the operator to focus on the task-at- hand and switch seamlessly between screens in a well-organized and dynamic environment. RCS 5 with the new function Drill Plan Generator (DPG) allows for creating and editing drill plans on-board the rig or from a remote location quickly and easily. The new Drilling Data Screen in RCS5 features real time depth and penetra- tion rate feedback with histogram for easy in-hole monitoring. "We're excited to continue our auto- mation journey, pushing the limits in sustainable productivity. Launching the RCS 5 platform will allow our cus- tomers and partners to further advance their operations, saving valuable time and dollars while increasing predict- ability and safety with either on board or autonomous operations," said Tyler Berens, product line manager, automa- tion at Epiroc Drilling Solutions. "Autonomous operations began with RCS 4, wait until you see where we take it with RCS 5," Berens added.
