AUTOMATION ENERGY SIEMENS EXPANDS SIMOCODE PRO MOTOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Siemens Industry Automation Division has expanded its Simocode Pro motor management system to include a basic unit with Profinet interface. Linking up Simocode Pro via Ethernet to higherlevel automation systems allows new functions to be provided for motor diagnostics, control and protection. The additional integration of PROFIenergy also improves energy management. Siemens new Simocode Pro motor management system includes a Simocode Pro V Profinet basic unit with two RJ45 interfaces, allowing the system to connect to higher-level controllers such as Simatic S7 or to control systems such as Simatic PCS 7. Profinet can be used to provide media redundancy functions which ensure that a connection is maintained within a network with ring topology, even if one communication channel fails. This helps to increase the availability, resulting in increased productivity of the entire plant. With its Profinet compatibility, the new basic unit also offers more farreaching diagnostic and control functions, in addition to simple communication between higher-level plant control and drive systems. This release includes a newly designed three���phase, fully solid��� state, silicon���controlled rectifier (SCR) power structure. The new SMC���50 con��� troller addresses the motor control needs of OEMs and end���users seeking a more eco��� nomical alternative to drives and more ad��� vanced control than across���the���line starters. Designed for customer flexibility, the SMC���50 controller combines advanced monitoring and protection features, multi��� ple start and stop options, and expandable control inputs and outputs. These features help users increase efficiency, reduce down��� time and improve control. Rated at 200V���690V AC and with software from 90 to 520 amps, the SMC���50 con��� troller is ideal for controlling motor speed and torque in a range of normal���duty ap��� plications, including pumps, compressors and short conveyors, as well as in heavy��� duty applications, such as rock crushers, wood chippers, centrifugal fans and long conveyors. The SMC���50 smart motor controller���s de��� sign improves voltage output to maximize efficiency of motor starts and stops. For application scalability, it features nine standard starting modes, six stopping modes and several slow���speed functions. In traditional starting mode, for example, if the SMC���50 controller senses that the motor has reached full speed before com��� pleting the selected ramp time, it will auto��� matically switch to providing full voltage to the motor.
