Cemex Named Most Innovative Enterprise Cemex has been selected as a winner of the 2013 Manufacturing Leadership 100 Awards in the category Innova‐ tive Enterprise, recognizing the com‐ pany's efforts to help drive and shape the future of global manufacturing. The award was given at the 9th annual Manufacturing Leadership Summit in Palm Beach, Fla. Cemex demonstrated positive impacts on operating results and process effi‐ ciencies for the adoption of Shift – its social networking platform with a busi‐ ness focus. By using Shift, employees' ideas, suggestions and recommenda‐ tions bubble up across the network. Communities of interest are formed to tackle challenges common to their loca‐ tions, markets and skill sets; and proj‐ ects move forward without the barriers posed by traditional hurdles, such as over‐reliance on e‐mail and live meet‐ ings. Benefits of Shift are lower cycle times, faster time to market, and real‐ time process improvement. The company's recent success and in‐ novation was benchmarked against a number of other companies compet‐ ing for this same recognition. Cemex was named the High Achiever in the category over other winners like Ford Motor Company and GE Global Re‐ search. In 2012, IBM was recognized as the winner. A panel of expert judges evaluated nominations across 11 categories, seven of the ML100 categories cele‐ brate outstanding projects undertaken and completed by a manufacturing company. PRODUCTS Air Pollution Control Service Golden Eagle Technologies LLC, a premier provider of dust‐ collection and other air‐pollution‐control equipment within the Rocky Mountain region, announced a new service, Bag‐ houseDuctDesign.com. The company's proprietor, Greg Black, developed the web‐ site to provide basic air‐pollution control project support to plant engineers who need assistance with sizing new equipment or improving upon an existing system. Black stated, "We apply our expertise for the sizing and selection of collection hoods, air flow selections, ductwork, air pollu‐ tion control devices, and effect appropriate fan selections to induce sufficient system air flow and pressure for your elevation. Dry Jet Pulse Baghouse or Cartridge Collector Systems are supported for dusts, as well as Wet Scrubbers for chemical vapors. 60 ROCKproducts • JUNE 2013 Electrostatic Precipitators are applied for oil mists, kitchen exhaust and some weld fume control … costs are reduced by providing scaled two dimensional sketches with equip‐ ment layouts and duct runs for the plant engineer to detail and implement." BaghouseDuctDesign.com also offers field advisement serv‐ ices. Existing systems can be evaluated for potential im‐ provements. Black added, "We welcome the challenges of retrofits, where sometimes through fan speed changes, fil‐ tration device modifications and redesign of duct/hoods , we can make a dysfunctional system function. We can assist clients who are considering used equipment purchases or expansion cost planning." Golden Eagle Technologies, www.goldeneagletechnologies.com www.rockproducts.com
