SCREENING SIZING KPI-JCI Celebrates 3,000th Screen Sold Johnson Crushers International, Inc. (KPI‐JCI) recently cele‐ brated the shipment of its 3,000th screen, marking nearly $200 million in revenue for the company from screen sales and pro‐ viding 47 high‐quality, U.S.‐based jobs to its skilled workforce. "We are very proud that our success as an American manufac‐ turer has allowed us to create jobs in Oregon and beyond," said JCI President Jeff Elliott. "We are also very proud of our em‐ ployees, who have made this achievement possible through their commitment to continuous improvement and devotion to meeting the needs of the customer." Triple‐shaft horizontal screens were originally invented in Eu‐ gene, Ore., by Louis Johnson, who founded ElJay. The horizontal screens were designed primarily to fill a need to perform in the more challenging environmental conditions typical of the Pa‐ cific Northwest, where material is wet and sticky, which tended to blind and plug the commonly‐used incline screen technol‐ ogy of that era. After ElJay closed, JCI began in Eugene and was later acquired by Astec Industries. ciated with replacing old or obsolete screens in their plants. Today, as part of KPI‐JCI and Astec Mobile Screens, JCI is the global technological and service provider of the foremost hori‐ zontal screening equipment on the market. JCI also specializes in roller‐bearing cone crushers and portable, stationary and track‐mounted plants. "We are incredibly thankful to JCI's founders for having the courage and vision to design this product," Elliott said. "With the support of Astec Industries, we have been able to create a state‐of‐the‐art manufacturing facility that is poised to serve the needs of the market." KPI-JCI, www.kpijci.com JCI's screen offering has since grown to include both single and dual shaft incline screens, as well as its patented Combo Screen, which combines the best of both a horizontal screen and an incline screen. JCI's full product range of screens has al‐ lowed it to become a market leader in screen market share. JCI's custom screens allow end users to have a screen built to fit existing applications, minimizing the downtime and cost asso‐ Hoyt Screen Increases Production Rates, Wear Life Hoyt Wire Cloth has developed a screen cloth manufacturing technol‐ ogy unique in the production of effi‐ cient and long‐wearing woven wire screens, the company said. It is made possible by the compression and ex‐ pansion of the conventional round wire, previously used to produce woven wire screen cloth. The compressed and expanded oblong shaped wire is positioned vertically and tightly woven to manufacture the Hoyt Hi‐Rise Screen. Much greater open area and longer wear‐life is now possible when using Hoyt Hi‐Rise Screens when maximum production of accurately sized material is needed, according to the company. Conventional round wire woven screen cloth was the industry stan‐ dard ever since woven wire aggregate screens were invented. Simply stated, crimped round wires are woven to‐ gether to produce square opening shaped screens. As round wire abrades due to the aggregate flow over and through the screen cloth, the openings become larger and the wire diameter becomes smaller. Replace‐ ment of conventional woven wire screen cloth is needed when either or www.rockproducts.com both of these factors occur in the ag‐ gregate screening process. Addition‐ ally, due to the geometry of the round wire, once the openings enlarge, the screen cloth panels needs to be re‐ placed due to passage of oversized material. The Hoyt Hi‐Rise Screen, utilizing the oblong shaped wire, now eliminates the occurrence of oversized material and rapid wear due to abrasive screening conditions. The Hoyt Hi‐ Rise Screen not only extends screen cloth wear‐life by increasing the effec‐ tive height of the wire but also offers aggregate producers much greater screening efficiency and production due to the compression of the wire. This increases open area and aggre‐ gate production convincingly. Hoyt Wire Cloth, www.hoytwirecloth.com ROCKproducts • JULY 2013 27
