The new engines meet Final Tier 4 emissions regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) – giving OEMs with space-constrained installations more options. The engines utilize a John Deere Inte- g ra te d E m i s s i o n s C o n t ro l sys te m equipped with cooled exhaust gas recirculation, a diesel oxidation cata- lyst and a selective catalytic reduction system, and join a lineup of Final Tier 4 generator drive engines that use the same technologies plus a DPF. "We've been able to develop constant speed engines that do not require a [DPF] to meet both stringent emissions regulations and the performance our customers have come to expect," said Darrin Treptow, manager, worldwide marketing for JDPS. P ro d u c t e n h a n c e m e n t s i n c l u d i n g increased power, low idle speeds, dual frequency ratings and easy paralleling enhance customer performance for prime markets. Low idle speed capa- bility reduces fluid consumption and decreases wear on the engine during transport or start-up and shutdown checks. Electronic controls enable easy synchronization when operating gen- erator sets in parallel, while offering flexible dual frequency operations of 50 Hz at 1500 rpm or 60 Hz at 1800 rpm. In addition to generator sets, these engines can provide power to selected constant speed applications. New PowerTech generator drive engine models and power ratings include: • PowerTech PSL 4.5L: 128 kWm. • PowerTech PVL 6.8L: 160 kWm and 192 kWm. • PowerTech PSL 6.8L: 216 kWm and 240 kWm. • PowerTech PSL 9.0L: 273 kWm, 326 kWm and 345 kWm. John Deere plans to begin production of the PowerTech PSL 4.5L generator drive engine in late 2015 while the PowerTech PVL 6.8L, PSL 6.8L and 9.0L generator drive engines will enter pro- duction in 2016. The V20 family features easy setup and operation with energy efficiency. With a power rating ranging from 1/6 to 40 hp at 480V AC, Sinamics V20 drives are available in five frame sizes and are ideal for mate- rial handling, conveyor, pump, fan and compressor applications. This compact drive can be connect- ed and installed the conventional wall-mounting method or, optional- ly, mounted with heat sinks pushed through the enclosure wall. Since no additional modules or add-on options are required for operation, installation time is minimized. The integrated Basic Operator Panel (BOP) enables trouble-free commis- sioning and operation on-site. Besides the universal serial interfaces that allow for easy connection to Simat- ic programmable logic controllers (PLCs), a Modbus interface is also included for communication with third-party controls. Pre-built connec- tion and application macros are used for facilitating application-specific settings. For units with power ratings higher than 10 hp, a braking resistor can be connected directly to the inte- grated braking chopper. Operating the Sinamics V20 drive is just as easy as commissioning. Param- eters that have been optimized for one application can easily be transferred to other drive units using SD cards via the Basic Operator Panel or the battery-op- erated Parameter Loader. The built-in display has the ability to list only those parameters changed from the factory default values rather than having to scroll through all of them. The Sinamics V20 is equipped with an energy-optimized control mode (ECO- mode) for increased energy efficien- cy. ECO-mode automatically adapts the magnetic flux in the motor to the optimum operating point. The DC link coupling enables efficient energy utili- zation of drives grouped together. The Sinamics V20 can also be set to hibernation mode, which prolongs the service life of the motor and also reduc- es system component wear. By display- ing real-time energy consumption on the operator panel display, the opera- tor always has the drive's ener- gy and cost effi- ciencies in focus at all times.
