The tow-behind conveyor is constructed with a hitch that can attach to a track plant and easily travel behind the plant as it moves, according to Jodi Heirigs, product man- ager for KPI-JCI and Astec Mobile Screens. A bolt-on hop- per side wall allows the conveyor to rotate 180 degrees to discharge material to either side or rotate 90 degrees to transport inline. "Our new tow-behind conveyor pairs perfectly with our track-mounted impactor plants – which are the only con- tinuous crushing and tracking impactors on the market – and allows material to be stockpiled on either side of the machine," Heirigs said. "This is ideal for highway contractors, who can stockpile material over Jersey barriers and min- imize the number of times material is handled for reduced operating costs." Results proven from the field have shown that producers can achieve more than $1 per ton savings by eliminating unnec- essary haul trucks and replacing with the tow-behind con- veyor, thereby minimizing the number of times the material is handled. "Unnecessary material handling is a costly mistake," Heirigs said. "By investing in a tow-behind conveyor, producers and contractors can achieve very significant savings over the life- time of the machine." Additional features to the tow-behind conveyor include an 11-ft. discharge height, which enables it to load material directly into trucks or build a windrow of material along- side of the track plant. The conveyor also utilizes a hydrau- lic drive, which allows it to be powered off the track plant. Producers have the option to add dust suppression to the tow-behind conveyor by hooking it to the track-mounted impactor plant. KPI-JCI and Astec Mobile Screens showcased the portable tow-behind conveyor at the 2016 AGG1/World of Asphalt tradeshow, held March 22-24 in Nashville. "Phoenix-branded conveyor belting has been very popular in Europe and the rest of the world with the exception of North America," said Bret Hall, head of Phoenix and NBS Service-NAFTA. "With the recent addition of enhanced manufacturing capabilities and a high- ly knowledgeable sales and marketing team in North America, we now can offer our NAFTA customers a greater breadth of conveyor belt products and solutions." The Phoenix brand offers a complete line of steel cord, textile and special conveyor belts as well as protection systems and field services for all belt products. The "flagship" of the steel cord line is called Phoenocord; Textile belts are branded Coal Quest XP, Glide Plus, Glide Ultra and Glide Surface Some of the Phoenix special belts are branded Phoenopipe, Phoenohoist, S-Wall and Tough Coat PVC. The protec- tive services are named Phoenoguard and Phoenocare. "In addition to these top-quality prod- ucts, we offer a variety of options of service, depending on the customers needs and requirements," Hall said. The belts also are supported with a solid line of compounds that give each belt unique service and operating characteristics. The compounds focus on issues that are common customer concerns such as abrasion, flame resis- tance, heat, oil and low rolling resis- tance. "A unique compound for flame resistance is called Shield," said Hall. "This compound addresses a fire safety issue that is critical to a successful min- ing operation." Hall added that the Phoenix brand would be served by a NAFTA-centric group of distributors located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America.
